There are two Gaslight Tapes, a short one with recordings from 1961 and a long one with recordings from 1962. This CD contains only the long one, so its title is not appropriate.

The date of these recordings is given as either "late 1962", "Fall 1962", or "October 1962". It is not clear whether they are all from the same gig. The CD suggests they are not, since the tracks are all separate from each other.

It seems that this is the oldest Dylan bootleg CD. Since its first appearance it has been rereleased by various lables. This is a review of the version I have. On the CD is printed "Made in Denmark" and its cover "Printed in W.-Germany".

One of the tracks of this CD, "No more auction block", has been officially released on "The bootleg series - volumes 1-3". The sound quality of this track is less clear on "Gaslight tapes" than on "The bootleg series", but still very listenable. The sound quality of the rest of "Gaslight tapes" is about the same. I am satisfied with it.

The last song fades out before it ends. I don't know whether there circulates a complete recording of this track.

I think the long Gaslight Tape belongs in any collection of unreleased Dylan recordings. This is not the only CD on which it is released. It's also on "Documents of Bob Dylan" and "Rare live performances of the sixties", both of which contain the short Gaslight Tape as well.
