This is about 90 minutes of rehearsels dating May 89. Some very interesting songs, lots of covers here in nice quality.

The famous 'Judas - I don't believe you' recording in all it's glory ! Finally a complete recording of this concert (manchester '66 ?) has reared it's pleasent head. This time the acoustic part is also present. A must have.

This is another incarnation of the Monterey'95 PA tape, that can also be found on Guided by the Eternal Light and Loud and Strong. This time it's the disc is filled up with Bob's performance at the R&R hall of fame and I shall be released from the brixton academy, London '95. All in excellent quality. A great disc.

Two incomplete soundboard tapes from the '86 tour with the Heartbreakers , LA 3/8/86 and Buffalo 4/7/86 and one song from 29/7/86. The Buffalo tape was completely released earlier as Rich and Poor. Good quality, but nothing too special.

There's a full-colour 1995 photo of Bob and JJ on the cover, and Bob's eulogy to Garcia on the back. It sells in Japan for around $90. It hasn't appeared in the UK yet.

A new bootleg that has surfaced in Japan recently (in a few places only and pretty expensive) is Bob and Jerry, a 3CD set of the 25/6/95 show with Jerry Garcia's last guest appearance and 16/11/80, his first guest appearance. The 1995 show is in wonderful sound quality and the 1980 one is just decent, though I prefer it to the inclomplete soundboard that is available on a number of CDs. Bob's eulogy to Garcia is printed on the back.

Dancin' In The Dark

A nice disk with mysterious rehearsels on them + 6 songs from the unreleased 1980 'live' album. If you like somewhat more rough stuff, then listen to this one, very fine version of 'Trail of the Buffalo'. Other songs included: Six days on the road, Suzie Q, Folsom Prison blues etc.

This is a review of the disc by MOE, taken from the newsgroup Rec.Music.Dylan :

A mysterious surprise of a 2-CD set containing a motley crew of tracks recorded at an unknown rehearsal in '87(?) w/a band that is not the Dead or the Heartbreakers. Anyone who can fill us in on dates/locations/who are these guys? Rainman has just informed me that if these rehearsals have circulated, they have done so in limited circles, as he has no clue. The quality is excellent w/great separation, full sound and Dylan's vocals loud and clear. Unlike the last set of rehearsals ("The Never Ending Tour Rehearsals," 2CD Moonlight) to surface, the quality here is much better and the tracks are more fully realized/less fragmented than those. Although not as "outtakey"(?) sounding as the "Darkness At the Edge of Noon" rehearsal sessions from '78, these tracks also play more like outs than rough rehearsals. Of the 20 tracks included, there are only 3 instrument- als (Dancing w/slight vocals, Leopard Skin Pill Box and Joey). The "Joey" is very cool, with the band playing out a funky groove before fading out. Of the 17 remaining tracks, 16 are fully realized "takes," with only DeadMan an abbreviated 1:30 before abruptly ending. Lyrical differences abound, including HeartOfMine, BigGirlNow and a great Shelter FromStorm. The band infuses all the tracks with a bluesy, rockin' sound - they are no slouches and you can feel Dylan being driven by them - this is no normal, sloppy rehearsal. WHO ARE THOSE GUYS????? Keep reading, the best is yet to come - some rare tracks include 6DaysontheRoad, a great song called CarryingMyCross(trad), SuzieQ!!, very nice BigGirlNow, unusual AllIReallyWantToDo, killer LeopardSkin (2), DeadMan, EverybodysMovin, and the 2 high points of this collection, IMO - a song called EASY (author noted as Robinson) w/a great chorus/tagline (hey, I'm not a music critic) that Dylan sinks his teeth into and an amazing TrailoftheBuffalo w/an ominous accordion in the lead and a scary Bob vocal - listen to the end line where he sings "...let the desert(sun?) bleach his bones" that ranks up there with the best BUFFALOES (even the Gleason home tape :-)). 'Tis not all the pleasures, either - superb HeartofMine, pounding Joey, IllBe YourBabyTonite, rockin' FolsomPrison and it all ends w/a ragged but energetic Shelter. As I said, not your normal rehearsal - this one will garner repeated plays. A fine sounding band, IMO and nice "performances" all around. Alright John Bauldie, MKrosgaard or Clinton, who are these guys and when did all this go down?

Six bonus trax from (I believe Toronto 4/80)seem out of place but it's better than nothing (or more Dead tunes)-ServeSomebody, CovWoman, WakeUp, PrecAngel, SlowTrain, SolidRock - all in what seems like lesser quality than the excellent "Solid Rock" 2CD set of the whole show. Packaging is better than average w/nice color photos throughout. Highly recommended and we need some answers, experts.

I have seen this one in the shops a couple of weeks ago, I didn't know it wasn't catalogued then by Phil Townsend. This is a complete recording in outstanding quality of RFK Stadium 25 jun. 1995. Not the most interesting setlist, but very good nevertheless. It features the last performance of Bob and Jerry Garcia, who joins Bob on stage for a couple of songs.

This is the Vienna, Virginnia 20 july 1991 soundboard recording made through the DeafAid line outputs for people with hearing difficulties. Nice Performance, nice quality, complete circulating PA-tape, but not complete show.

The '64 Halloween show released again. It's a classic performance with Bob's famous "It's halloween and I got my Bob Dylan mask on" remark. This one is in excellent quality, also due to some digital filtering to get some tape hiss out of it. If you haven't got this one yet, then go out and buy it.

Ring Them Bells

The Oh Mercy outtakes released once more. Not too bad, since the other one 'Deeds of mercy' has become a hard to find disc. This one has gone through a filter too though, and the result is that it has less tape-hiss, yet also some of the warmth of 'Deeds' is gone. No need for an upgrade if you already have one of the other Outtakes discs.

The Unreleased Live Album

Yes, it's another Dylan/Dead release. This one is different than most others though. This seems to be the release that wasn't released. This album's tracks were selected by Garcia/Hunter and are all live version of songs that weren't on any of Dylan's previous albums. It's a far better disc than the official release, and it's perfect quality !

The Empire Strikes Back

The second night of the Liverpool residency of this year. Nice recording (a bit 'bassy')of a nice performance. Good filler from the 1st night and a very strange incomplete version of VOJ as filler.

The Midas Touch

Finally Fort Lauderdale, The Edge 23rd sept. '95 made it on cd. Just look at the setlist and you'll probably want a copy. The recording quality isn't great, but considering it was recorded in a bar with 150 people present it's good enough to listen to. Nice filler from Spokane '95 and the excellent 'Restless Farewell' from the Sinatra Tribute.

Paradise Regained

This is a long awaited release of the Philly 17 dec. 1995. The Dark Eyes duet with Patty Smith finally made it on to a disc. This late '95 tour was great and this show is no exception. Good quality recording too with excellent filler.

Hunted (Like A Crocodile)

This would be my pick of this bunch. It's The Hague '89. One of the best shows of the GE Smith period with the great electric Trail of the Buffalo. This is the complete show in great quality.

The Emmett Grogan Acetates...

The meaty stuff from the Grogan Acetates including the earliest known recording of Mr Tambourine Man with Ramblin Jack on shared vocals and All I Really Wanna Do from the Newport Festival. The remaining tracks are rough takes of the officially released takes complete with the occasional later-to-be-edited glich and a whole extra verse on All I Really Wanna Do. The Pennebaker Retro Rock broadcast features footage from Don't Look Back (including contributions from Baez and Donovan) plus Don't Think Twice from Newcastle '65. It also carries an advert for underpants featuring a Woody Allen sound-alike but it's all a bit too surreal for me so I'll skip that bit and advise you to do the same. Recording quality is excellent throughout. Valued for the Grogan Acetate material, less compelling for the remainder.

Brussel '96, probably in good quality. It seems a lot of Euro '96 shows are released on bootcd. What can you say ? These shows were great and so is this disc, although I would prefer the dutch shows over this one.

Pledging My Time

This would be my pick of this bunch. Great quality audience recording of a great performance at Bloomington 26/10/95. The filler tracks are well known by now: R&R hall of fame and the Sinatra Tribute. Although they are present here in excellent quality.

Heartbreaker Blues

A 1987 show (Munich, 30 sept. 87) w/ the Heartbreakers that fits neatly onto 1 disc. Nice audience recording. The 1987 tour was a bit of a hit and miss tour if you ask me, but this rather a hit than a miss.

This disc seems to be a copy of Peco's Blues, the other Billy the Kid cd. I have always enjoyed these outtakes a lot, for some reason ? Dylan seems to be very relaxed and enjoys himself a lot on these takes. If you haven't got it yet, you should get it !

A 2cd set of Udine, Italy 8 july 1996. The recording quality of this one is not up to today's standards. Probably an analogue recording. Still ok though, and of course the performance is up to Europe '96 standards.

Paradise Hawaiian Style

A previously uncirculating soundboard recording from the complete show at Waikiki'92. Excellent recording quality and a great show. Strange filler from Iowa Nov '90 though.

Renaldo & Clara

This is the soundtrack of the movie, not snippets as one could expect, but almost all are complete version. It's a stereo mix, in excellent quality and it represents the atmosphere of a Rolling Thunder show really well. Although maybe it's not a recommendation for the avarage listener.

Yet another outing for the Emmett Grogan Acetates, and a real good one it is. Recording quality is superb and almost all of the Acetates are here, except for a take of Tombstone blues and Lunatic Princess (but that one can be found on Genuine Bootleg Series 2). As a bonus you get some outtake material from Another Side and Times...

Bobfest rehearsals

Rehearsals for the 30th anniversary. Artists playing on this disc: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Roger McGuinn, Neil Young & Tom Petty. There is a lot of tuning in between the tracks. It's a nice disc, especially if you like the other people playing on the disc, but like other rehearsal discs, not one you'll be playing a lot.

The complete show of Munster, July 1st, 1996 in great, crispy, quality, similar to the Christiana Boxed set. And a nice show to boot, what more can you say about these Europe '96 shows ?

A compilation of acetates from '62 - '65, mostly studio material. Most of this material is available elsewhere, but it's a very nice compilation and the recording quality is excellent.

A wonderful 1996 compilation album, great choice of tracks in the quality we've come to expect from audience recordings nowadays. The abysmal quality recording of the guest appearance at a Rolling Stones show in France can better be ignored.

This is not much more than an archive document. Acetates from '65 - '70 grouped together, making this a bit of an odd collection. The material is already available elsewhere.

Two Soundboard recordings from the '75 Rolling Thunder Tour on one disc ! The quality of these recordings is stunning and the performances match that quality. Get it if you can.

Highway 49 Revisited

An nice quality audience recording from the '76 Rolling Thunder tour. It's a nice show, typical for this tour. a great, very bitter, version of Idiot Wind ends the cd.

An audience recording of LA '78. The quality of this one isn't very good, it's a very nice performance though, but it doesn't really come recommended. The last two tracks of the cd are a bit of a mystery and can better be ignored.

Just The Girls

It's been quite a while since someone released a 1984 cd. This is an audience recording of Berlin in average quality. The show is nice, typical for an '84 show, but they all were a bit alike. The last few songs Santana comes up on stage to show off his guitar tricks.

On A Night Like This

This cd starts with a wonderful recording of Kiel, Germany '94. The sound is full and Bob's vocals are upfront. A great performance too, just what we have come to expect the last few years of touring. The filler of this cd is almost the entire Rotterdam '87 show, missing the two encores. It's an audience recording, just a little a notch down from Kiel '94. The show is a bit messy, Bob's voice sounds tired and ragged, still there are a few gems like Queen Jane and Slow Train coming. All in all a nice disc, worthy to be in any collection.

A complete show from the USA Fall tour '96. Very nice quality, just like most of the '96 recordings. Bob's vocals are clear and the band sounds crispy. No real surprises in the setlist, except maybe for a not so often played Joey and God Knows. Highlight of this show was a superb Forever Young, that has to be heard.

Very nice recording of 30 Oct. 94 with filler from 31 Oct. The filler was picked with some taste as it makes for excellent filler on a very nice disc.

One of the few '97 discs that is out there. This one is from Japan 20 Feb. 97 with filler from Tokyo 9 - 11 Feb. Outstanding tracks are The Man In Me, What Good Am I ? and Friend Of The Devil.

CD's added Nov. 22nd

The Wicked Messenger

First release of the April 1997 tour, April 19 ! And a fine release it is. Good quality recording and some nice filler. The cd starts off with a ragged version of Not Fade Away, after that the show does get a lot better, not the most outstanding show of the '97 tour, but certainly a good one.
Ofcourse it's a pity the bootleggers didn't include Long Black Veil as filler, but that's only a minor complaint.

Tempest Storm

A Japanese release of the Empire Burlesque outtakes. Probably just a copy of the Outside The Empire CD, which was 'speed corrected' compared to Clean Cuts, an earlier cd. If you haven't got it already it's well worth it ! On this cd you can hear what the songs sound like before Arthur Baker got his hands on them.
